I practice digital video
in an expanded field, with and without a camera, with or without
showing images through the use of analog materials, in a post-digital
perspective. Considering the antagonism between images & exhibition
spaces, I have enacted the aggressive nature of space & light on
the body of my video work as in anatomy dissection : scattering all its
parts in space.
I’ve been using images, materials, objects & language to
install & organize data in the exhibition space. Treated as
information, my works aim to confuse medium specificity & blur the
differences between image & object, between seeing & touching,
between showing & using, between here & there, between mental
projection & spatial observation, in the end between computing
(signs) & feeling (forms)
the titles
From 2008, all titles have been obeying one & only rule :
words should not explain or encompass the object or image. They connect
just like a person does with his own name. All titles are chosen from
my database ranging from url to quotes & names from all areas. The
works thus speak through them but one can wonder who is speaking
– the artist, the work itself, someone else – and to whom
it is addressed – themselves, the spectator, other works …
Installations
They are built by superimposing an image (often kept secret) on the
exhibition space focusing as much on its physical qualities –
colors, materials, scale and light – as on its context
–location, audience, budget.
the PDF files
This series named after the well known Adobe file format (Portable
Document Format), starting in 2010, fuses photographic pictures or
documents with their framing, hanging devices & wrapping materials.
This analog output of the PDF enables me to consider the object of art,
curating & museography (showing, transporting, storing) through
digital practices (opening, manipulating, saving)
.
